D2 Sports Pub to Break Ground in Hobart
HOBART (WLUK) -- Construction on a nearly $3 million entertainment and restaurant complex in Hobart is set to begin next week.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Wednesday at the site D2 's new Sports Pub located in the heart of Hobart's Centennial Circle.
"The vision really started with us talking to Hobart, the village said what can we do to bring a restaurant to this development and as soon as they planted the seed we found Mike Lenarduzzi and Howe Johnston," explained Brian Peters from Bayland Construction.
Mike Lenarduzzi, one of the owners said this project has been in the works for more than a year.
"It's been a great run for the D2 Sports Pub, we opened our first location in 2009 and it's been a fun ride, this is just a new addition to growing the company," he said.
Construction of this 9, 000 square- foot facility is expected to be completed by the summer of 2020.
"I think its been a long road to get a restaurant here so it's fitting to have it on a day like this. It just shows that we will do anything and stand in any weather to get a restaurant and area where people can gather. I'll be even more excited when we see the actual brick and mortar going up," said Village Administrator Aaron Kramer. "We are a community that embraces ideas. From day one I told the staff I don't want to hear the word no, I want to hear maybes and let's see if it can happen and this is an example of making it happen."
Kramer said the village has been in contact with other potential contractors and developers who are looking to build in the area, but it's still too early to reveal those plans.
"You know how it works, this was a long negotiation its been almost a year since we began discussions on this restaurant and there are other things in discussion stages that are happening as well," he said,
