Scenic Shore Inn Breaks Ground
ALGOMA, Wis. (WBAY) -- The city along the lakeshore is expanding as the owners of Algoma’s Scenic Shore Inn break ground on a new motel and indoor pool Friday.
Bob Davis has been co-owner of the Scenic Shore Inn for the past ten years and to him, it’s a family business.
“I think people appreciate the personal touch we have, like a family touch of taking care of our guests,” said Davis. “Matter of fact, a lot of our guests have become our friends.”
But over the past several years, his 13-room motel just wasn’t big enough anymore.
“Every weekend we turn away people during the summer, so we are in need of this badly,” said Davis.
“We are the gateway along the shoreline to Door County, so the bottom line is we’ve got a lot of traffic going back and forth,” said Jeff Wiswell, Algoma’s city administrator. “We need to take care of those visitors.”
To accommodate more guests, Davis’ team decided to expand and build a new $1 million motel right behind their existing motel in Algoma.
“It will have ten bedrooms, two are larger suites with kitchenettes,” said Jim Thyes, project executive for Bayland Building Inc. “There will also be a gathering area, conference room, an indoor fitness area, along with a pool room, which will have a sauna.”
Davis hopes the pool attracts more families, but also adds to the Algoma Community.
“We are even thinking about having activities in the pool, like exercising in the pool for more of our senior members,” said Davis.
“Algoma itself is not growing as much as we would like yet, but I think you are going to see Algoma growing in the next 10 years,” said Davis.
“We bill ourselves as a friendly community, but we are looking for more friends,” said Wiswell.
Construction will officially begin Monday, March 19.
Davis said the motel will be complete by this August, just in time for the city’s big Shanty Days celebration.
